Black bodies rocking against splintered wood. Sharks following at a hungry distance. A trail of blood in the water shackling Africa to the Americas.
These images have haunted me since I was a child. But now that I live in a remote diving community in the Mexican Caribbean, I’m finally going to do something about it.
Return of the Black Madonna is a full-length feature documentary that chronicles my epic quest to learn to swim, dive, and map sunken slave ships. It’s currently in early production. We’ve done preliminary filming in Holbox, Akumal, and Playa del Carmen, Mexico, and additional filming took place in New Jersey.
Since filming began, I have learned to swim and even went on a snorkeling adventure or two. However, diving is the next obstacle I’m keen on overcoming. To do that, I’m interested in serious investors (large or small) joining the adventure. You can contact me for more information, including a pitch deck.
You can also participate in the epic quest by following the film’s progress on Instagram (“Woodbine Ventures”). Plans are underway to launch a YouTube channel with regular updates and behind-the-scenes footage.
Below is a clip to learn why Return of the Black Madonna is important and what we can learn when we dare to dream beyond ourselves.
